A blog, shocking..

With back to school right around the corner, I thought what better time to get back into the swing of things and actually try to give this blog the attention it deserves. Mind you I haven't been in school for about five years so I apologize in advance if this is a little rocky. First I should probably write a little intro just in case there's someone reading this who doesn't know who I am. But my entire site has my name plastered all over it so I'm guessing you at least know that. Just in case, hi, I'm Jackie. I'm a makeup artist living in the North Jersey area close to NYC.

Now that that's out of the way a little backstory for you. I originally went to school with the intentions of becoming a high school math teacher. I liked teaching, I liked math so naturally I thought this would be a great fit. A little ways down the road I realized this just wasn't meant to be. One thing lead to another and I stepped off that path. Now obviously it wasn't as simple as that but for short story purposes that's as far as I'll go today.

I always enjoyed makeup. I didn't start wearing it regularly until high school probably. Unless you count a couple of emo middle school days wearing black eyeliner just underneath my eye and the normal mascara. High school was where I first started wearing eyeshadow. I still remember my friend showing me this Hard Candy eyeshadow palette she bought and I immediately wanted it. I'm pretty sure that was my first one. But even before that I was still wearing foundation, way darker than my skin tone, and having that oh so desirable line of demarcation between makeup and skintone. I didn't know what blending was yet oops. I even tried to do winged linger many days and still have the pictures in the yearbook to prove I was terrible at it.

While I was in college that's when the big youtube boom started. Many youtubers were uploading makeup tutorials and I think this is where I got hooked. I always did my makeup, I had now graduated to full looks, foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer, highlighter, lips, eyeshadow, and even lashes. Still didn't get a hold of my brows back then, that took a good ten years to finally have good ones. But now I was learning techniques and different tricks to go along with it. And for a broke college student it was nice to see new products even though I couldn't get them.

I started to do my friends makeup as well. For nights out, sorority functions, and even their halloween makeup. I was starting to fall in love with it and knew it was what I wanted to do. Fast forward to leaving school and moving back home. I was working three part time jobs to save money to go to makeup academy. Three years later I found myself in Hoboken at Artist Makeup Academy. I loved my time there. Yes it was a blur (still working two jobs now while in school) but it was a great experience that gave me the confidence to move forward with my career. And I know if I ever need anything I can always go back to those ladies. So one more time shout out to Roxy, Gaby, Jules, Xio, Natasha, and Andrea and all the other amazing ladies I met.

So here I am today. Working in Sephora full time while also freelancing for clients. I love what I do. And at the end of the day if you're not happy, then you need to do something about it. I thought teaching wasn't for me but I think now maybe I just had the wrong subject. I traded in fractions for faces and pencils for brushes. Teaching trig to teaching tips and tricks to friends and clients became my new subject. And I couldn't be happier.

Which brings us to right here right now with this blog. No I am not trying to be an influencer and no that's not what this blog is about. I just want to share my knowledge and passion with others. Some tips and tricks maybe a few hacks along the way, maybe just some opinions I have that I want heard. So if you made it to the end of this I appreciate you. If you continue to read these posts I appreciate you. If you follow me on instagram and show your support I appreciate you. Just a fun place to come and get away for a while while also being a little glam. That's it for now just lookout for the future.
